I bought one the best multimedia player (hardware) in the world 3 years ago and despite a number of firmware updates it still has challenges with some audio/video files. Even VLC that is probably THE best player in the world sometimes sucks. It's unrealistic to expect that one box will flawlessly play all of them right away.

There is an unlimited number of standard/non-standard video formats on the market and Unfortunately this isn't as simple as that especially when talking about playing videos. Good to hear you were finally able to read your MOD files even if you had to setup the VLC to do so.įrom a Customer perspective I do agree things should work out of the box in 2013. On the other hand you were able to read it with WMP Under 7 so you should be able to do the same under 8 assuming you were running WMP 12 Under 7. I suggest this as I'm now wondering if you're really experiencing a codec issue - keeping in mind that the MOD format is kind of funny as you said. I've been using it for years and it reads almost everything.

If still no luck there is for sure a good alternative to WMP.

If this still doesn't work and after having uninstalled the codec pack try opening the MOD file renamed as MPG in Windows Media Player - maybe with this extension WMP will be able to download the correct codec. Prior to this and if you haven't tried this yet just rename one of your MOD as MPG and see how it goes. I haven't looked at other pack of codecs for you but you should definitively uninstall this one as it doesn't look suitable.
